The Presence of God in All Things
One of my favorite readings from morning prayer …
The advice [of Francois de Sales] was simple—she [Jeanne de Chantal] was to learn to love beyond her present capacity. She was eventually to learn to love all that life presented to her. By doing this she would open herself radically to the presence of God in all events. She, like the Savior she adored, would stretch out her arms to embrace all her “crosses,” knowing that in the act of authentic loving, resignation in its most profound sense, she was being fashioned in the image she loved and bringing that image into the world.

Hello Sister
Would you please tell me where I might be able to get a copy of the book this is in? That she ( and you) mentioned today of all days, learning to embrace all her crosses, seems to me to be (maybe) God speaking to me.
I hope you are well.

Hi Lisa … This quote is in my prayer book which is called People’s Companion to the Breviary (2 vol. set published by the Carmelites of Indianapolis. It’s on page 106 of volume 1. I think this set is still readily available at Catholic bookstores or retreat centers for a cost of approximately $27.00. (Note: If you buy online, the volumes may be sold singly). The People’s Companion to the Breviary follows the Liturgy of the Hours.
The quote is taken from Wendy Wright’s book The Bond of Perfection: Jeanne De Chantal and Francois De Sales (1986). You can find a copy on Amazon by clicking here.
This quote always stops me dead in my tracks when I read it … Sister Julie
