My NPR Debut
I was recently interviewed by Scott Simon of National Public Radio’s Weekend Edition Saturday. Scott had all sorts of interesting questions for me about my life as a nun, my blog, and my work at Loyola Press. I’m not sure how much of it will air, but it certainly was a great conversation. The piece is tentatively scheduled to air tomorrow [ACTUALLY, it's airing March 31]. Check your local NPR station for the time. Or you can go to the Weekend Edition Saturday web site and listen at your leisure. I’m pleased that people find religious life a newsworthy topic and to have the opportunity to talk about what an adventure and gift it is.

That reminds me, I never wrote about my PRI (Public Radio International) debut on the program Fair Game. That was a very fun interview and a delightful conversation with the host of Fair Game, Faith Salie. I enjoy this program quite a bit and have listened to it ever since it premiered. It is “a satirical news and entertainment, weekday evening program” that ”covers the important stories of the day and uses insightful humor to tease out what it all means.” Check out the Fair Game web site or click on my sidebar link under “Interviews with Sister Julie”.

Looking forward to hearing it…
I found your blogsite through our local paper the Virginian-Pilot. I enjoy reading it and though I am not currently a practicing Catholic, I follow what goes on in the Church.
During college, I had the fortune of meeting a Sister’s of Notre Dame nun whole was the campus Catholic clerical representative. I was quite involved in the Church back then and have contemplated coming back, however I have a lot of problems with the Vatican’s position on women in the Church, birth control, celibacy, etc.
I think what really fascinates me or perhaps attracts me to the Church is the contemplative life as expericenced by Merton.
I have always been attracted to the simple life that exemplifies the life that Christ led as well as some of the saints such as Francis of Asssi.
I will keep up with your blog and comment from time to time.
I heard your interview on NPR this morning and came searching for your blog. I just want to say thank you. Your blog is a refreshing look at nuns/sisters and the wonderful mission and life of service that they (you) live. Thank you for your insight and dedication to sharing the reality of being a sister with a modern world that doesn’t fully understand that vocation.
I worked in a convent during college, a small Ursuline community in Northern Idaho, with only 4 sisters. During that time I discerned a possible call to the religious life. God has led me to the vocation of a married woman, but never halted my deep respect and love for the sacrifice and service of those in the religious life.
I too came here after hearing the interview with you on N.P.R.! cool!
Anyway, I respect nuns and religious a great deal.
I like that you have a story on stereotypes people in general have about nuns.
Here in the Yakima Gulag, several nuns have done vital social action for peace, to help the poor, and given selflessly of themselves to help educate children. This is a very good blog! Keep up the good work!
