Pilgrimage to the Monastery

by Sister Julie on August 30, 2007  J.M.J.A.T.

in blog post, news on the nunfront

There’s a great new blog out there by a young woman who has just entered St. Benedict’s Monastery in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Her journey to the monastery was probably like many of ours in terms of discerning God’s call and getting to know the community of sisters. But what is unique about this young woman is her desire to journey to the monastery as a pilgrimage. What exactly does that mean? Concretely speaking, 668 miles across Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota — by bicycle.

A pedal stroke closer to the monastery is a blog by Stephanie in which she chronicles the fifteen day biking journey from her family home to her monastic home where she will be a Benedictine postulant. Read her first post “An idea blossoms” which explains how she came up with the idea to bike to the monastery and how the idea developed. Stephanie has since arrived at the monastery but I highly encourage you to read through her posts as she prepares for and enters into her pilgrimage. Fortunately we will continue to be hearing from Stephanie who wrote that she’ll keep up her blog during postulancy. Blessings to you, Stephanie!

Thanks, Jen! I was bored and thought I’d try it out and I kind of like it too. I’m not sure what I’ll do with the picture in the header. The one I currently have is a picture I took at the Chicago Botanical Gardens. Those two nuns probably thought I was stalking them because I followed them for a good 15 minutes until I could get the shot I wanted.
