A colleague sent this to me and it brought back good memories! How I loved diagraming sentences! How many of you learned to do this? I don’t think I could do it now, though as a writer it certainly would come in handy! A great party trick too! :)

Don’t know if I could diagram that, but I can SING it thanks to schoolhouse rock.
In fact, I remember my social studies class in 8th grade where we had to write down the preamble that we were supposed to memorize – practically the whole class was humming.
That’s hilarious! How many things do we remember thanks to some little creative teaching trick!
Schoolhouse Rock rocked. I liked the grammar ones which would help with the diagramming! Next, the Gettysburg Address?
I am SO bringing that to my American History Class!
Sr. Susan: you too?
It’s been 40+ years since I have seen a sentence diagrammed! Wow!!! and with what words you chose to do it…It is a work of ART!!! Thanks for the memories. (I’m probably one of the few in my English class that liked to diagram a sentence…but then I enjoy games.) Cathy
I also loved diagramming, and when I stopped to think about it, it has been 40+ years. I think I will goi diagram a few sentences, just for fun! Maybe my husband would like to join me–we can have a competition. He speaks of diagramming as well, but I am not sure if he enjoyed it or not.
A diagraming showdown perhaps!
HA! Few people are familiar with what I call “the joy of grammar.” That rocks.
I also LOVED diagramming sentences when I was in grade school. It was an area I really shined in and, perhaps, made up for my pathetic math abillities (I STILL don’t know my times tables thanks to the traumatic tests I endured in 4th grade….that’s another story). But I think they gave up teaching diagramming shortly after I left Robert Gray Grade School.
thanks for the trip down memory lane! and I love the blog….
