Father James Martin, SJ, to visit ANunsLife.org

by Sister Julie on May 22, 2008  J.M.J.A.T.

in blog post, catholic life and theology, discernment, vocations

I am pleased to announce that my blog will be hosting Fr. Jim Martin, SJ, for one day during his whirlwind blog tour!

On Tuesday, June 3, Fr. Martin will visit ANunsLife.org and discuss the saints and the role of the saints in our lives, especially in discerning one’s vocation. Fr. Martin is a Jesuit priest and the author of the book My Life with the Saints. Check out my post from a while back on My Life with the Saints.

How this works is that Fr. Martin will be checking in all day on my blog. I’ll create a special post for that day and start the conversation off with Fr. Martin by asking a few questions. He’ll respond via the comment section which is open for anyone to write in any questions/comments for Fr. Martin. He’s here to engage with you so please come and visit throughout the day. I’ve met Fr. Martin, heard him speak, and read his books and can tell you he is a delight! He’s someone who truly lives the Ignatian way of finding God in all things.

Since this is a blog about being a nun, religious life, and discerning God’s call, I’m going to ask my Brother Jesuit to begin with a reflection on his call to religious life and how the saints were part of his recognizing God’s call. I invite you to read a chapter of his book which deals one saint in particular who was instrumental in helping Fr. Martin discern his own call. Courtesy of Loyola Press, here is a PDF of My Life with the Saints: Chapter 4 called “The True Self: Thomas Merton.”

Loyola Press is also raffling an autographed copy of My Life with the Saints — everyone who joins the June 3 online discussion by writing in (via the comments section) is automatically entered into the raffle. Readers of ANunsLife.org will also be given a special discount code to order the book. Thanks, Loyola Press!

Please join the conversation on Tuesday, June 3, and bring your questions and ideas for Fr. Martin.

Fr. Martin will also be on blog tour at the following blogs …

Great excerpt from the book. Coincidentally, my wife and I are going to a bed and breakfast this weekend and then tour “Kentuck Knob”- a famous residence by Lloyd Wright. We were wondering about the name, when I read the passage about the Kentucky Knobs (hills) where Merton lived. Best to all-

Enjoy the weekend, David! My family is coming for the weekend and for Bike The Drive — a 30 mile ride on Lakeshore Drive! :)

That is wonderful. I am going to write this date down.
I enjoy reading your blog.

Good luck to Father Martin and you on the 3rd. I will be traveling most of the day, but will try to log on if I get a chance. His appearance on the Colbert Report was great- both funny and insightful. Best regards, wishes and prayers- always,
