COMING SOON: A new look for A Nun’s Life

by Sister Julie on August 13, 2008

Hi All! I’m in the process of designing a new look for my blog. I’d like something that has a cleaner design and is both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional. I’m working with a professionally-designed theme which I hope to have live within a couple of weeks.

Since I’m in the process of tinkering with the blog, I’d like to know from you what you’d like to see in terms of features on the blog — not so much about the content (what I write) but how the blog works and the features or widgets that it has, the functionality.

If you’re not sure what I mean, check out other blogs — do you see something there that you’d like on A Nun’s Life — e.g.,

  • a list of the most popular posts
  • a seach-this-blog field
  • more resources on vocations, religious communities, other bloggers, etc.
  • a place to enter your email so you get an email when I write a new post
  • a list of the most recent posts
  • etc.

Anything else that you think,

“Gosh it would be so great if Sister Julie had ______ on her blog.”

or

“I would absolutely love to see ______ on A Nun’s Life.”

Please write them below in the comments section. Look forward to reading your ideas!

Hi Sister. I would love to know how/where I can learn more about being a nun, becoming a nun.

I have volunteered with Missionaries of Charity in an AIDS hospice for years, at nights, but still

the types of nuns, the orders, the different requirements/rules/lifestyles, etc are all a mystery to me and

I would LOVE to know more.

Do you have any recommendations?

Thank you, God bless you, Heather Havey

I’d love it it you took up the topic of lectio divina. I see why this practice makes so much sense – but I wonder whether it makes a lot of difference WHAT you actually read as lectio divina as long as it is spiritual material that makes you assess your situation, your actions, the state you’re in, your relation to the divine. Doesn’t lectio divina work because it guides you towards examining your life from more than ground level and because it reminds you to look at what you do from a more spiritual angle? What do you think?

Hi Sister Julie,
I love your musings. What I’d like to see is a picture of you and your sister-sisters and things like where you live and worship, on the new site. (Visual aids to your musings) Thanks Sue

I think “ask Sister” is great. More stories of nuns and their daily lives, the different jobs and ways they find to serve God. Photos are always great.

I hope you keep the blog the central part of your site…I’d hate to miss a new article! It’s nice to see the new stuff right away when I visit…when I have time I’ll click to the other stuff.
And I’d like to second the pictures comment. It’s so much different to see nuns in action versus reading about it.

I like the “latest talk” feature on your blog. Since I’m a regular reader, I like to know when other readers have left comments and on which posts, especially if the comments are on older posts. I hope you’ll keep that as part of your new design. Your blog is a wonderful resource and ministry, Sister Julie. Thank you and God bless.
