Angel Talk: Preparing for Joan Wester Anderson’s Visit

Angels are a popular subject. Just check out any “Inspiration” section of a bookstore. In preparation for Joan Wester Anderson’s visit tomorrow, I thought I’d surf around and see what other A Nun’s Life friends have said about angels.

Lisa Hendey, the tech-savvy mom behind CatholicMom.com, did an interview with J.D. Kamps, author of The Foxhole Angel.

Sister Susan Rose Francois, CSJP, writes about jail-busting angels on her blog Musings of a Discerning Woman.

Bill Howdle of Dying Man’s Daily Journal reprises one of his awesome posts on angels.

Sister Rose Hoover, RC, “cybernun”, writes about wrestling with the angel of God. Sister Rose blogs for Cenacle Sisters at Caught Up in God.

Julie D. of Happy Catholic blog recently hosted Joan Wester Anderson as well. But back in 2005 she wrote about her own guardian angel story.

Think about your own angel experiences and angel questions for Joan. Look forward to our conversation tomorrow in honor of the Feast of the Guardian Angels!

Do you believe in Angels, Sister?

Sister Julie October 2, 2008 at 7:53 am

I do believe in angels, Annie. I do have a bit of a skeptic’s edge in me, so I’m always the type who keeps pushing the “faith seeking understanding”. I’m definitely a “yeah but” kind of gal! I’m fond of the archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, and a little scared of the baby-faced angels. When I was young I read all of Madeleine L’Engle’s books — remember the scenes with the angel in A Wind in the Door? That has always stayed with me.

Oh wow, and I just got my internet hooked up at home. Like you, I’m a bit of a skeptic, too. But I’ve got a weird story to share.

When I moved to LA, it was 85 in LA and 65 when I arrived in Seattle. I think that’s as good a metaphor as any for my first few months here. Anyway, I was walking back from Trader Joe’s, and I was thinking about a lot of questions I had regarding the move, life, the universe, and everything. As I was walking back, I heard someone singing. Turned out the guy was singing an African song I often heard at CalArts, so I stopped to talk to the guy. At first, he seemed to say a bunch of random things, but as I spoke with him, he was answering the questions I was thinking over a few minutes before. We had a nice little chat about he growing up in Ghana and a bunch of other things, and I went on my way feeling oddly better. Something didn’t add up about the guy, and I wondered what happened to him. None of the shelters in the area had ever heard of him, and I haven’t seen him since. Coincidence? maybe.
