Being a classic Star Wars fan (original trilogy preferred), I love all manner of Star Wars references.
Here are two funny ones that I came across this week:
R2D2 at the Skatepark
Boba Fett in the Simpsons (just the first 20 seconds of the episode)

Eh. Star Wars was more or less your basic good-vs.-evil morality play, with a bit of redemption thrown in. Now StarTrek hits every theme out there. It was the social conscience of the 60s and continues to be today, tackling issues like prejudice, racial intolerance, workers’ rights, etc. The five series responded to current issues, like the Vietnam War, the Potempkin incident, 9/11, AIDS , etc.
Oh, I can get so off topic so quickly. Pardon me.
Yeah, they don’t call me Sister Mary Star Trek for nothing.
Well, Sister Mary Star Trek, I beg to differ!
Since Star Wars did not have a TV series, one can technically compare only the Star Trek movies with Star Wars, in which case, Star Trek pales in comparison. Star Wars is much more than mere good versus evil. Yes, redemption is key, but so are many universal archetypes such as core images of hero, wisdom, temptation, forgiveness, compassion, conflict, vocation (answering the call or refusing it), adventure. What’s not to love?
I will, however, grant you that the Star Trek series do a great job at addressing current issues and making us think about them.
Blessings,
Sister Mary Star Wars
Please pardon this fan girl. I had forgotten about some of the achetypes you brought up, but then, I don’t have those movies as committed to memory as I do some others.
I must admit, though, that my Princess Leia costume came in really handy for litugical dance…
Live Long and Prosper!

You are hilarious! Thanks for the smile, my sister. May the force be with you.
And also with you!
You aren’t gonna make me represent for Doctor Who, are you?
I’ve been waiting for the resident Whovian to chime in!
