Your questions. IHM Sisters respond.
Sister Anne Crane, IHM, joins us today. This is one of the videos that I took when I was home in Monroe. You’ll hear a bit of partying in the background as this video was taken during “pub night” at one of our IHM gatherings. Sister Anne responds to one of your Nun Questions.
What books are you reading now?” (from Marquis and others)
In this video Sister Anne talks about three books (listed below) which are different in themselves but which are connected by a common theme of “girls growing up”.
The three books that Sister Anne reviews are as follows:
- Run: A Novel
by Anne Patchett
- The Book Thief
by Markus Zusak
- Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood
by Marjane Satrapi
Sister Anne Crane, IHM, is a Catholic nun belonging to the Immaculate Heart of Mary congregation. Sister Anne recently retired from Saint Edward’s University where she was a Professor of English. She lives on our IHM Motherhouse campus in Monroe, Michigan.

Oooh. Persepolis *is* good. I picked it up on a whim, and I’m glad I did.
These books sound so interesting! Thank you for sharing!
I’ve got so much reading to catch up on, but Persepolis kinda intrigued me too.
I am interested in Sister’s comment about how girls grow up in a different way than boys. I don’t know much about that, since I come from a family of 5 girls!!
In my family, my mother and grandmother taught us to pray. My father, on the other hand, passed down the ethical and social dimensions of the faith. Is this unique to my family? I am interested in whether Sister has perceived a difference in the spiritual development of boys and girls, and whether she belives if this is nature or nurture.
