FP0001 A Nun’s Life First Podcast
Today is a first for A Nun’s Life. We are trying out podcasting! Take a listen to our first podcast ever. Prepare yourself, however. It is a very low-tech production and kind of rough, but I think you’ll enjoy it. It chronicles our trip to and first day in New York City which is where we currently are.

I think you did very well on your first shot at podcasting.
I’m curious as to what you used for recording the various segments. It being your first shot, I think the segues between the sections were done well, all things considered.
Nice job!
Great job! Thank you for the GREAT tour!
Yes, very well done. You sounded very natural and relaxed. Always nice to hear reactions to places I know so well. I grew up in Brooklyn. Volume was a bit of a problem in places. Thought I’d lost you once because of a long pause. Congratulations on the ‘new baby.’
Thanks for the comments and ideas. We recorded the “on-site” sounds/voice using a hand-held digital voice recorder. The overall narration was me using my Mac computer. I wove everything together using GarageBand on my Mac. Yeah, the sound levels were definitely funky … I know there’s a way to equalize stuff, but haven’t figured it out. I’m always the type to try first and read instructions later!
Sister Maxine and I had an awesome adventure today which we’ll talk about in the next podcast (I hope to record it later tonight after Vespers and dinner).
I like the mix of narration and “on-site” sound/voice but weaving it together is tricky. Also would like to get a better feel for integrating music/instrumental as a device to create a better flow.
We’re glad for you feedback; keep it coming!
How cool is THAT?!
I am so jealous that you’re in NY and I’m not.
Having said that, you’ve got a radio voice big time! And I think it’s cute that you pronounce the Ts at the end of a word…convenT.
Have an awesome time!! Did you see the Today Show building?
What a treat to find a podcast–and by 2 of my favorite IHMs! Hi, Max and Julie! Next time you’re in NYC, try to arrange a side trip to Syracuse, why don’t you? I miss you both, and hope to connect soon. Thanks for this new venture. Thanks, too, Julie, for the wonderful insights of Margaret Brennan. Stay warm!
Thanks for that!
I have never been to the east coast of the USA – but hearing the podcast made it come alive for me.
In the middle of summer – it was nice to hear about the cold weather.

Great job, Julie! Congratulations. I liked your weaving of recorded sounds together with your voices. Take care!
Hi Julie,
Listened to your 1st podcast, excellant!! I am originally from N.Y. and ya did a great job easy for even non New Yorkers to visualize the best state in the union.(only teasing, non New Yorkers) I will be listening to the rest for sure.Have Fun,keep up the good work.If you should get the chance I’d really love it if you could e-mail me some more specifics on your IHM congregation. Thanks,
Sue
Dear Sue, Thanks for the encouragement! I too am originally from NY — the state that is. When in NYC, the folks think they are the ONLY real New Yorkers and they casually dismiss the rest of the state, esp. upstate.
And trust me, there’s no dissuading them!
I am happy to chat with you more via email. Will email you now. Blessings, Sue.
