A Nun’s Life photo caption contest

Welcome to the first ever A Nun’s Life photo caption contest. On my neighborhood walk yesterday I discovered the Blessed Virgin Mary in the front yard of an apartment building. The photo begs for a caption so I thought I’d toss it out to you to come up with the best caption for this picture.

Here’s what you do:

  1. Pray and meditate on the perfect caption for this photo. (Suggestion: Befriend the BVM. She will help you with ideas and inspiration.)
  2. Submit your entry by writing your name/pseudonym, real email (so A Nun’s Life can contact potential winners — enter where it says “email” — never made public), website (optional), and caption in the comment box below this post.
  3. Check back often to see other divinely-inspired caption entries.

The contest will run through this Friday, March 27 midnight (CST).

Over the weekend, my nun Sister Maxine and I will go over the entries and select the finalists. Then on Tuesday, March 31 (one week from today), we will announce the finalists. You will have 24 hours to vote for your favorite one. The caption with the most votes wins! The prize? Well, that has not been decided. Far more important than the prize will be the personal pride and joy you will feel at winning this contest! :)

Thanks, Regina! When you put your email in the box that says “email” it just goes to me but is not made public. And you can always check back! :)

“Sadly, your half-hearted devotion to Me has not increased your lukewarm faith in Divine Providence.”

Divine Intervention – Priceless!

I printed out this photo and took it into the hospital this afternoon when I went to visit my daughter. She is 27 years old (Melissa) and has bone cancer. I thought this picture would cheer her up. We live in Northern Virginia now, but in 1999 we lived in Beligum and in our back yard (or “garden” as it was called there) – there was a statue just like this, who was inconviently planted at “home plate” where the boys played game after game of baseball. Sadily – Sadily our Blessed Mother lost her left hand in a wild game one summer when my oldest boy was sliding home. Melissa laughed to see the photo and it brought a few great memories we had of living in Beligum and the garden we shared with a very gamey BVM!!

Of your BVM my daughter said : “In that neighborhood it takes a little more than your average home security system to help you sleep safely at night!!”

So, I think that is going to be our caption for your photo contest!
Thank you for the simple joy you gave us today – we needed it badly this week…

BVM: “Oh hAi, iz not telemarketer, iz ur mother…u interested in burglary insurancez?”

Another Sister Julie, CSSF March 25, 2009 at 7:45 am

Oh, Ray! You have invented “lol vm”!

Another Sister Julie, CSSF March 25, 2009 at 7:46 am

ARGH! That would be “lol bvm”! (as in “lol cats”)

Secured by ACCURATE DEVOTIONAL TRAJECTORY!

Theodora March 25, 2009 at 12:07 pm

Well, as a member of the Church Militant, I don’t know from moderation!

Annie March 25, 2009 at 4:24 pm

I’m gonna go with (and this would be the BVM theoretically saying): “Hey, it was a really NICE barn, okay?”

Julie C March 25, 2009 at 6:01 pm

This home is secured by ADT but watched over by the BVM. Which would you rather have?

Sherry March 25, 2009 at 8:56 pm

Certainly gives a deeper meaning to ADT’s slogan “Always There.”

Robyn TSSF March 27, 2009 at 12:58 am

“My help comes from the Lord – and if he’s busy, ADT will be there!”

Robyn TSSF March 27, 2009 at 12:59 am

ADT call centre: “God’s busy. May I help you?”

Caption for the photo:
“So I’m a mother! Of course I’m overprotective!”

Another Sister Julie, CSSF March 27, 2009 at 9:57 am

ADT– A good idea.

Backing up ADT with a little BVM–Priceless!

ADT-so trusted, the Blessed Mother uses us to keep snakes out of her garden!

Melissa March 27, 2009 at 9:25 pm

ADT tells the cops, Mother Mary tells Jesus…face it, you’re never getting away with this.
