I am happy to say that the Petri Dish Convent is no more. What we hoped was a fixable problem was really a massive mold problem that had made it’s way through cabinet wood, drywall, and wall studs. Not pretty. So on Saturday we moved into a new house that will serve us well and be a place of hospitality for visiting sisters and others. The last few weeks have been rather trying but there is light at the end of the tunnel (much better than mold), and we are looking forward to unpacking and getting back to our life and mission.
Regular A Nun’s Life posts (including Monday is Nunday posts) will return tomorrow!
In the meantime, here is today’s “mid-morning” reading (Terce) from the Liturgy of the Hours.
Sisters and brothers, be joyful. Try to grow perfect; help one another. Be united; live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.
- 2 Corinthians 13:11

Good luck. May you settle soon.
I’ll be doing the same pretty soon as I’m moving to another community for the 2009-2010 school year.
It’ll be good to have your regular A Nun’s Life posts back again – welcome to your new home, and I’ve missed you while you’ve been busy moving
I’m glad you moved in safe and sound.
As for the reading from Terce: thank you. I really needed to hear that. It give me inspiration to give more. Thanks again.
Thanks for the update. I’m glad to hear that you have found a new, mold-free dwelling.
I’m so glad you’ve escaped the Petri Dish and are safe in a healthier place. I’m in Chicago today, so will think of and pray 2 Cor. 13:11 for you!
Sister Julie- You sound relieved to be settled and mold-free. Congrats. Jean
Thank you, I really needed to hear the peace part, even though I hear it everyday in other ways.
I’m glad that you’re no longer living in the middle of some dodgy science experiment and that you’ve found somewhere to live! I well remember finding grotty mould under our sink when the washing machine in the flat upstairs leaked – ewww – fortunately landlord sorted it out but it wasn’t fun. Looking forward to your returning to the blogosphere soon!

Dear Sister,
I love your blog. I clicked on your list “Nuns I’ve known” list. I see you mentioned Sr. Dominga, MC. I am an MC co-worker. I was also a Lay Missionary of Charity for many years. A few years ago I attended the LMC retreat with Fr. Sebastian, MC in St. Louis. Sr. Dominga was (and still may be) the Superior at the St. Louis MC mission. She and the sisters visited us every day at our retreat. I knew Sr. Dominga when she was in the Bronx, NY. She visited us often at the Newark NJ MC mission often. Sr. Dominga is a very special sister – just awesome….
God bless you sister!
Sr.Julie,
I did the moving gig last Aug.temp was 103,I was so tired I remember just putting a pillowcase on the mattress to catch a few zzz’s
as I had been moving car load,by carload from old house to new all through night and by the time it began getting light, and more cars on the road I knew I had to stop for a little break anyway.I had others helping periodically also thru night but it wasn’t pretty.Soooo,I know
where your at.If I would’ve had mold,or any other problems at that point….you would’ve heard me scream!!!! The big mistake I made was I thought cause it was only like an 11mi move I could do itcar load by car load, except for the big stuff, annd save to stay on budget…NOT!!! I hadn’t moved in a l-o-n-g-t-i-m-e,& oh boy did I have STUFF,left alot for new owner.if they wanted it& am still going thru STUFF!!! With some stuff though…the minute you toss it,is when you need it for something!! Now almost a yr later, great house, love it…..it has come thru (still standing) after 90mi/hr winds(frequently)
here.Last weeks storms were real scarey, but the good-ole house didn’t
fail me.So,I hope once this worst part of your move is over the house
will be worth all your effort as mine has been.Don’t forget about the grass needing cuttin, bummer, when temp is over 90.It’ll be great when you get to start enjoying the house!! Congrats, best of luck!!time to get going for the lap pool……..
Now I will say, WELCOME HOME SISTERS!! You can relax now, put your load down and put your feet up.

Uuuugh. Mold like that is not fun and a real health hazard. Glad you got out of it!
Home, sweet home, Julie!
Julie, blessings and love to you and Max! I heard the (horror) story from her–what a disaster. Know that I’m thinking of you, and hoping that all is well.
Sister Julie: It’s a few days now since you posted, so I guess that you’re still immersed in the turmoil of moving. This is just to let you know that you’re in my thoughts and I’m looking forward to your return
hope all is well. i’ve checked back daily and worry a bit that you haven’t updated. blessings on you.
Thanks, Marla, Chris and others. As happy as we were to get in the new place (and out of the moldy place) it was still an endeavor. Wonky connections for Internet and gas (i.e., no hot water), faulty thermostat on the dryer, dishwasher on back order, etc.–all these plus the stress and effort of moving twice was a bit much for me. We spent two afternoons at the laundromat cleaning everything (stuff exposed to mold spores) and had countless trips to the hardware store returning stuff from old house and getting stuff for new place. So I think I was a bit too optimistic about getting “back to normal”!
Venite … LOL!!
Dear Julie,
A bit tardy but want to wish you every good things in your new digs. Second try will be a charm! Continued blessings on your wonderful ministry.
