Lying Awake Book Discussion

by Sister Julie on July 8, 2009

The Lying Awake book discussion is coming together. Check out the new forum we created for the book discussion. I’ve begun to populate it with some information on the book and on the author Mark Salzman.

A Nun’s Life Discussion Forum

Also, read more about some of the issues we’ll be addressing in the first post about the Lying Awake discussion. Would love to hear your feedback. I will post more on the discussion — how we will approach it — tomorrow. Book discussion will probably “formally” begin Sunday. We’ll do some live discussion and ongoing discussion. Trust me, you won’t want to miss this book discussion! We’ve got some cool things planned.

Suggestions or questions to be addressed?

Sure, Carole — will do. You should definitely read Salzman’s The Soloist. Doesn’t have a nun character but a rich, spiritually engaging book nonetheless. Will think on others and email you.

There is a new documentary by Michael Whyte that debuted at the Edinburgh Film Festival. Called “No Greater Love,” it is similar to the “Into Great Silence” documentary about Carthusian monks–except this is on a cloistered Carmelite monastery at Notting Hill, London. While the article I read about it in “The Tablet” of London is not online, there is a brief review at the following site: http://cinemablend.com/new/EIFF-09-No-Greater-Love-13605.html

Unfortunately, no theatrical or DVD release date has yet been announced. But let’s keep an eye out!
