Will look at it tomorrow or Monday. I've seen Sr. Helen two times. One time was at a talk with many other people. The second time was at a dinner where I got to meet her personally. She is really a great and amazing lady. She's got one heck of a sense of humor as well. A friend of mine, who is now in her early 70s, attended a school called Cathedral High School back in the 50s. It was the high school affiliated with St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC. Long story short, every year the students had a retreat. Bishop Sheen was the presenter. I was the dorky fan who got in the book autograph line just to shake her hand and tell her that I think she is amazing. Later after the Conference I saw here in the airport but she looked so relaxed and probably glad to be "off-duty" that I couldn't bear to go up and chat with her. She has a warmth and light about her that makes you feel good just being in her presence. That's a real gift. It make me think that that is how people must have felt when they were near Jesus. I did not know of it. And David K, I would like to shake your hand and, through a few short degrees of separation, shake those of Tim Robbins and Sister Helen Prejean. Dead Man Walking is one of the prodictions I can see again and again and always find new topics for spiritual meditation. I have not read the book but wouldn't THAT be a agreat book club book, Sister Julie?! And Sister Hildegard, that was a wonderful story about Sr Sandra. It makes me think of Fulton Sheen's decision toward the end of his life that he no longer wanted to do closed retreats he wanted his retreats for priests to be open to sisters, brothers, the laity. How blessed we are as Catholics to have such amazing thinkers and lovers of Jesus and how amazing that Jesus' ministry is so richly complex that such brilliant and different thinkers as Bl Oscar Romero, Sr Sandra Schneiders and Archbishop Sheen are all true Catholic disciples of Jesus. I am finding that I need each of them to help me understand Jesus and the Catholic Church. Sister Julie, thank you for providing a community that has room for all of them.
