IHM Community Days

by Sister Julie on July 22, 2009  J.M.J.A.T.

in blog post, catholic sisters and nuns

I am home at the IHM Motherhouse in Monroe, Michigan. Today we have our summer “community days”. All of my sisters come home for days of prayer, study, and discernment about our life together and how God is continuing to call us to live the liberating mission of Jesus. Then on Saturday we have our big community celebration of our Jubilarians, the sisters who celebrate the 25th, 60th and 75th anniversary of their entering the community.

I am thrilled to be home and to see everyone. The whole house is buzzing with good energy and excitement about being together. That is one thing I absolutely love about being an IHM Sister. We cherish our time together, we like hanging out with one another. It energizes us and renews us as we then move back into our ministries.

I hope to post again this week but may be a bit challenging with all that’s going on here. I ask for your prayers and will try to check in when I can. Do continue the conversations started this week and last — some very good ones going on about Vocation Directors, Paul Rudnick’s infamous piece on nuns, and Spiritual Writing. Also don’t forget to tune into the Discussion Forum — you can follow the “live” conversation we had on Sunday and add your thoughts.

Blessings!

My community, the Salvatorian Sisters, we have something similar, but we call them Assemblies. We usually get together sometime in June and do the same activities you described above. So blessings to you and your Sisters Julie, as you come together to share your lives and celebrate together!

I wish I could be there! Do give my love to the “Building Sisterhood” folks, to my Kairos MU, and to anyone else who might know who I am . You’re all in my thoughts and prayers….

Enjoy your home time, Sister Julie. Time spent in the company of good women is time to be treasured.

Hey, what a great website! I love the inspiring quotes and also the various conversations and comments by women who love Christ enough to give their lives to Him. It is very inspiring to me and makes my heart glad.

God bless you all

We had our community days in June–Assembly, workshop, Jubilees, play day and retreat. Added to that was the “Amen!” day to celebrate the 56 years of our southwest province, and a look forward to this coming November 21 when we will combine the 8 North American provinces into 1–something on which we’ve been working since 1996!

I hope you had a blast with your sisters.
