4 Dogs + 1 Baby + 1 Massive Rainstorm = FUN!
Can’t blog. Must tend animals and baby. Formation in a religious community does not train you to deal with 4 dogs following you around while simultaneously trying to warm milk for crying baby meanwhile 1 dog freaking out with thunder and another at your heels waiting for miscellaneous food to drop to floor all the while it’s pouring rain and another dog is shaking water off her soaked coat and the fourth dog is leaning against you for some loving.
But the baby smiles … and all is well in the world.
Rocky, Zach, Nikki, and Maggie (clockwise from top left). Maggie and Zechariah are visiting.
My nephew Simon who is 8 weeks and a day!

Your baby nephew is adorable! And what kinds of dogs are those? They are all beautiful!
God Bless,
Brendan
Brendan — Zach is a Hungarian Vizsla, Maggie is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Nikki is a Jack Russell and Beagle mix, and Rocky is a Lab and Hound mix. Simon is a Deborah and Paul mix.
He is absolutely beautiful and so alert for his age. You must be a very proud auntie. Thanks for sharing the photos. Jeannie
The doggies are beautiful and Simon is an absolute doll!
God works in strange ways. Consider yourself tested and, from what I’ve read, I think you passed with flying colors.
There are other wonderous things that happen during thunderstorms. Keep paper towels and TP handy. Trust me. One large boom and you’ll see why.
Talk about muti tasking! One of those situations is a handfull! Beautiful nephew-I love the name Simon-Peter is my favorite apostle. Dogs are cute-but two dogs in a strange place with a thunderstorm? Tough to handle. I have three who howl and bark and it’s deafening-four must really be something. Wet corgi I presume? You will be ready for some quiet when your trip is over.
Annette — Simon is named after Simon Peter! and yes, Maggie was the wet corgi. On two accounts actually. After I wrote this post I lost Maggie. Had just finished feeding Simon and went to account for all dogs. One, two, three dogs … no Maggie. Checked everywhere. No Maggie. Dogs joined search. No Maggie. It was pouring rain but I figured she wasn’t outside because her legs are too short to make it through the doggie door. But that was the only place left. No Maggie on the deck. Ran out to the back yard. Called for Maggie. Sure enough a very wet dog comes out of the woodwork. Brought her in, toweled her down. Everyone happy. Apparently Mags can go out the doggie door but can’t make it back in!
How lucky Simon is to have you as an aunt. My favorite aunt was a Sister of St Joseph. She was always Aunt Catherine to my friends and I, never her religious name. She always made special time for me and became a second mother to my sister and I when our mother died. I am sure Simon will come to value you also as he gets older.
The baby and dogs are all adorable. I wonder how often God smiles at dogs – it must be a lot because he gave them such special personalities. Your post souonds very familiar. My husband and I got married one year ago and we now have a combined houselhold of 5 dogs and 4 cats – who all get along by some miracle. I had been praying to St. Francis before the wedding to help us all assimilate after the big day – and he came through with flying colors. They are a handful, most are old and in need of daily meds, and yet when we all settle down for the night, it is a deep comfort to heard the various breaths and snores of five of the most loyal friends I’ll ever have, guarding my bed with their warm bodies. Enjoy your time with baby Simon – a precious miracle – and with the four creatures who think he’s just one of the pack!
Sister Julie,
Absolutely love your blog on your baby nephew and doggies.. What a great way to document your time with Simon, he’s such a blessing. Thanks for sharing.
He is so cute! I’m sure he will love having an aunt sister as he gets older!
