It would be great if there were a way to download your podcasts to my ipod so I wouldn’t have to be connected to the internet to listen to them.
1. My favorite part of A Nun’s Life Ministry is: pretty much everything. It would be nice to see a photo of both of you on the “About” page.
2. I would love to see more on: Prayer. When you share a passage that means much, quote scripture, even writing about Teresa of Avila and how you came to love and understand her, all these lead to prayerful consideration (and looking up the rest of the passage or reading more about that person). It seems I have more to say about this but for some reason the words will not come, so I hope this response makes sense.
3. It’d be great if A Nun’s Life used more … (particular kind of social media, e.g., twitter, video): You Tube – the interviews/snapshots of a Sister’s life are great. The buildings and grounds of the Mother House are beautiful, perhaps a video tour?
4. I would tune in every single week to a podcast by nuns if the podcast was about … or resembled the NPR show …. or had a format like: perhaps include a brief discussion of that day’s topic from the blog. Interview a Sister – talk about her specific ministry or even an eventful occurence during the week, etc.
5. For a live podcast, the best time of day is ….. and my best day of the week is: Saturday morning (I don’t always have privacy for the podcast while I am at work otherwise I would participate everyday).
6. I’ve listened to one of your podcasts (Praying with the Sisters, Nun News Roundup, or a special interview) and I would encourage you to: For this one I don’t have much input as I enjoy the podcasts in their various forms and the opportunity to chat during and afterward.
Thanks Sister Julie and Sister Maxine!
My admiration of “Nun’s Life” has been often expressed. I get such a kick out of seeing how you continue to develop and further your very special and unique ministry.
I am not a vocation discerner but one who connects with many in that process via my role as vocation director for my contemplative monastic community. My suggestions come out of the context.
I find that most of those who express a desire to pursue a contemplative vocation as a vowed religious have a very unrealistic picture of the nature of religious life as lived in the monastic community. Therefore they have little idea of the challenges that are sure to come if they enter into the life. A nun’s life is as complex and varied as any life style and makes all of the same demands experienced by those living in families, involved in a profession or any workplace, sharing in ministry. Then there are the issues each of us must face concerning physical, emotional, and psychological well-being and integration. Above all, comes the invitation to listen to the voice of God, discern its message, which God loves to change every now and then, and follow it with love and integrity.
So I would appreciate some opportunity for exploration of this particular type of vocation via any and all of the various means and media you have so wonderfully offered.
Thank you for your great work.
timewise, i’d listen every time if the program were on at night (eastern standard time)! tuesday and friday afternoons are good, too, the later the better, and this is true on saturdays, as well.
i’d love for you guys to talk about activist nuns. the weekend before thanksgiving is the annual school of the americas protest, which i attended several years in a row. i always took my students from my campus ministry because of the huge catholic participation. maryknolls and presentation sisters, sisters of charity, dominicans… every kind of nun… and often they are the ones arrested for civil disobedience. (priests, too, of course).
it would be cool if you “reunited” people with their favorite nuns to reminisce … a logistical nightmare? but cool if you could do it.
i’m a writer. what about opening up the venue to stories–reported by you guys–written/contributed by people like me?
i love a nun’s life. every aspect.
I love it -especailly photos of nuns from different orders, about the lives of regular nuns, and the live chats to ask questions!
My favorite part of A Nun’s Life Ministry is ….. spiritual reflections; Nunday; personal blog posts.
I would love to see more on ….. the prayer life; living your vocation; the rhythm of the Church year – feasts and fasts, saints’ days, etc.
It’d be great if A Nun’s Life used more … I don’t feel there is a need to branch out more; what we’ve got here on this website is excellent. The podcasting is great.
I would tune in every single week to a podcast by nuns if the podcast was about … the role of nuns in the wider scope of the Church – not only what individual nuns/orders do, but HOW what they do benefits everybody in the Church. It would be nice to have a bit more balance between focus on active/contemplative sisters, although I realise this could be hard to put into action.
For a live podcast, the best time of day is ….. mid-afternoon (in the UK!)
and my best day of the week is …. Monday, Thursday, Saturday are all prime podcast-listening days!
I’ve listened to one of your podcasts (Praying with the Sisters, Nun News Roundup, or a special interview) and I would encourage you to … keep up the good work!
Thanks for asking for feedback Sister Julie and Sister Maxine.
I’ll take another opportunity to share my appreciation and to celebrate your dedication and commitment to “A Nun’s Life Ministry.” I link to your website daily for inspiration … to pray with you and others, to read information and views from you and others, to research various topics, and to learn global updates and hear Ask Sister Q&A’s covered on Nun New Roundup on Fridays.
I offer the following for future consideration …
· Evening Podcasts … 6PM or afterward ET.
· More Guest Speakers (i.e. Mirabai Starr). I’d appreciate a return visit with Mirabai to speak about St. John of the Cross-around his feast day in December.
· Follow up Q & A which addresses the questions raised by many … to the October 7, 2009 blog titled “Investigation of U.S. Catholic Religious Sisters”, even if the answers is “we’re still researching” or “the answer can be found (include website link)”.
· You Tube and Video Tour idea suggested by Suze would be interesting. I’d enjoy seeing Sisters going through a typical day in Ministry, as well as Sisters participating in volunteer community activities and fun activities.
· Short Q&A video clips addressing questions from those discerning … answered by a Spiritual or Vocation Director. Maybe you can start with top 5 or 10 and then, work on building a library.
· Stories about Sisters on vacation, time spent with parents, siblings, and relatives etc.
Borrowing your joyful podcast conclusion … “God Bless”
)
1) My favorite part of A Nun’s Life is reading about what religious life is like.
2) I would love to see more on religious life in general — showcasing different sisters/orders, kind of like “Nunday” does. I’d like to see less on the Apostolic Visitation and similar topics.
As for the podcasts I don’t listen to them because I haven’t the time — not because I am not interested! I really love your ministry and admire you so much. I sincerely hope with all my heart that these podcasts have touched the hearts of others, and perhaps one homeworkless day I can be among these.
Many thanks for all the input … please feel free to add on!
Hello Sisters and thank you for asking for input!
I am a lay woman living in Chicago. I am not in discernment, but I am a Religious Associate of the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago. Since I am not in discernment, my interest in “A Nun’s Life” (aside from the opportunity for prayer) is the “technology as ministry” concept.
I do manage to logon for the noon prayer from time to time and also for the Friday feature. I enjoy them both. I don’t know that I would change anything. The sound quality could be improved and the addition of video would be nice.
I agree with all the comments that requested more photos; you, your residence, whatever.
The podcast for the feast of St. Theresa of Avila was outstanding! I can’t say enough good things about it. The day and time of day also worked well for me. More podcasts of that type would be wonderful.
Thank you for your ministry.
I stumbled upon your site one day and I absolutely love it. Thanks for all you do. I’ve tried to answer the questions as best I can.
1. My favorite part of A Nun’s Life Ministry is ….. I enjoy everything! But I especially love listening to the podcasts.
2. I would love to see more on ….. (particular topic)… I’d love to see more interviews with those in the religious orders as well as members of the laity who are involved in different forms of ministry. I especially loved the interview with Mirabai Starr and would love to see more of these kinds of interviews.
3. It’d be great if A Nun’s Life used more … (particular kind of social media, e.g., twitter, video). More videos that we can upload to facebook, etc. It’s a good way to share what you do with others who may not log on to the webpage.
4. I would tune in every single week to a podcast by nuns if the podcast was about … or resembled the NPR show …. or had a format like … Something like NPR would be great, maybe focusing on particular work that the sisters do in the community.
5. For a live podcast, the best time of day is ….. and my best day of the week is …. I’m always busy but early evenings would work best for me since I can’t always listen at work at the noon time (which is 1p.m. for me on Eastern time).
6. I’ve listened to one of your podcasts (Praying with the Sisters, Nun News Roundup, or a special interview) and I would encourage you to … Keep doing what you do! I love listening to your podcasts. Again thanks for all you do! Peace & prayers.
