Collection of articles on Apostolic Visitation

in blog post, news on the nunfront

Since the Apostolic Visitation of U.S. Women Religious was announced, U.S. Catholic magazine has been researching, writing about, and publishing articles and blog posts about the inquiry itself and the responses of women religious themselves as well as from the Catholic community.

U.S. Catholic has pulled together a collection of all these materials on their website at http://www.uscatholic.org/womenreligious.

We’ve also done some blog posts on the topic of the Apostolic Visitation.

Though there hasn’t been much in the news lately about the inquiry into our life as women religious in the U.S., the process is still underway. I’m not certain but I think the process is now at the point of beginning to select which communities will receive an on-site visit. More later as info is made public. For now, please continue to keep U.S. women religious in your prayers as well as Mother Clare Millea, ASCJ, and Cardinal Rodé and all who are part of the inquiry.

One sister friend of mine told me about the US Catholic study you are posting. She said her sisters were really looking forward to reading it.

I was at a party with an ex-sister acquaintance of mine a few weeks ago. She is very active in her old order. Long story short, and for what it’s worth, she told me (based on a VERY reliable source – she actually told me the source but I don’t feel at liberty to publicize it) that the investigation is basically falling apart.

Both sisters I mention above agree that it is possible that the investigation slowly fizzles out. Or, the one said, it could also morph into a much less intrusive animal and take on the character of more of a dialogue rather than an inquisition. I guess time will tell.

I bet Sr. Sandra has the low-down on all of this! It will be interesting to read more of her articles.

Thanks for the link. I look forward to reading it.

Sr. Julie (and others), I’d be interested in your take on the recent article in America Magazine (Jan. 4-11) situating the Visitation in light of Vatican II.

Hi Katie, I’ve not had the chance to read them yet. Will write a post as soon as I’ve read them and looking forward to your and others’ thoughts too!
