Storm Chasing Nun

by Sister Julie on June 24, 2010  J.M.J.A.T.

in blog post, news on the nunfront

Sister Maxine’s first words to me were, “Tell folks in the chat room we’ve got to go because the storm is hitting.” The thunder rumbling overhead and the preternatural meowing of Sister Chloe the Convent Cat confirmed Sister Maxine’s warning to me. Her second words were, “I’m going outside to get a video of this!” The power went out for a good 30 seconds and then flickered on and off for a bit. Did this deter our storm chasing nun? No, more important in fact to get good footage!

So while I unplugged everything and readied Chloe’s tornado emergency bag (food, water, that sort of thing), Sister Maxine shot this video. It’s just minute before it got really dark and settled into a beautiful storm!

After the storm Sister Maxine took this beautiful shot.

That’s an amazing photo … must have been even better seeing it. I like how there’s a tiny clearing in the clouds, almost like God peeking through. Glad the 3 of u are safe and weathered the storm well :)

Wow! So great to see the complete opposite ends of the spectrum that nature can bring us. Looks like some serious, heavy storms and then the photograph after the storm is such a beautiful thing to behold. Thanks for sharing, as always!

Storm chasing nuns?!?!? Please omit storm chasing from your resumé and be satisfied with moonlighting as a DJ. I do not want to hear about Sr. Max playing the lead in the Wizard of Oz – in real life.

Those are absolutely beautiful images, Sister Maxine. *virtual high 5 for capturing great shots* – it’s so amazing to see such images and reflect on how calming and powerful they can be even when it may also appear to be a lil’ scary. Does it storm frequently in Chicago or is this more a recent occurrence? Storm Chasing nuns? Naw…. we need you grounded and tuned into the mic because I know for me personally – these last few weeks of listening and becoming familiar with this community has helped me, emotionally and spiritually, in ways I can’t even thank you enough! :)

Sister Max, a brave nun after my own heart!

What wonderful ideas! I would like to make a pilgrimage to all the shrines in the Midwest U.S. I have been to Lourdes in France, where I spent a few great days. If you have any ideas for my midwest (Ohio, Michigan, etc.) pilgrimage, please email me. Pat

Cool, Pat! Let me think on that. I’ll get back to you!
