Jubilee Hangover

by Sister Julie on August 4, 2010  J.M.J.A.T.

in blog post, community, news on the nunfront

It is Wednesday morning and I am very, very tired! Sister Maxine and I have been at our IHM Motherhouse in Monroe, Michigan, for all of last week through the weekend — and what a celebration it was! We had Mission Unit meetings (clusters of about 12-20 IHM sisters and associates), retreat, talks by Father Tony Gittins, CSSp, Ask Sister special edition podcast from the Motherhouse, visitors from A Nun’s Life community in person, festive meals, prayer in solitude and in solidarity, cookies from Cakes by Stephanie (to die for), Jubilee Eucharistic liturgy and celebration, and the final profession of vows of nuestra IHM hermana Maria Antonia Aranda Diaz, IHM (more on her profession mañana).

It was truly a graced time, but I for one am exhausted! But it is a good exhaustion, one that reminds me that living life to the fullest, savoring every moment, working and praying and celebrating together — these all are good things that reflect who we are and whose we are.

For today, I’m going to catch up on some work and emails and sleep — but with lots of inspirations, ideas, and memories to accompany me!

Sister Julie and Sister Max, you were amazing at managing all the details of the past week here in Monroe. Besides hosting in person 10 or 12 of your faithful bloggers who traveled from all over the country to come to Monroe you continued to broadcast each night concluding with your Ask Sister broadcast on Friday. This was one of your great broadcasts with some stellar guest speakers. The bloggers who made the special efffort to be with us in Monroe endeared themselves to us IHMs. What a happy and astute group-each one unique. We just did not have enough time to chat with each one! Maybe there will be another opportunity. Now get some well-deserved rest Sisters, you have served well the people of God and challenged us all to give our best to each call from God. We in Monroe enjoyed all the goodies left behind!

The time we spent together last weekend was wonderful (and I so understand Jubilee hangover). It was good to meet NL community members and spend one on one time together.

Thanks Sister Julie and Sister Max!

I was so honored to be there last weekend with you, and it truly was a much-needed refocus. I felt so loved and respected in the company of all of the wonderful ladies so in tune to God’s Voice.

It was so amazing to spend time with you and Sister Max, the NL community and all the wonderful IHM’s at the Motherhouse. What a beautiful place! You two are great tour guides :) I highly recommend the trip to anyone.

And, to have so much laughter and warmth at every turn was truly amazing. I’ve shared with my friends how moving the Jubilee service was and how incredibly patient you and Max & all the sisters were with all my questions (Can nuns wear contacts? lol). I had a bit of re-entry shock at work on Monday because I got used to all the friendship and comraderie pretty fast!

Can’t wait for the NL Summit next year!
