Ask Sister podcast is a live podcast where you have the opportunity to engage with us and ask questions about nuns, prayer, religious life, or pretty much anything in between!

Here are some of the topics we addressed in this Ask Sister podcast:

  • Is there a generation gap in orders of women religious? Do the older nuns ‘think’ different from the younger ones? or does ‘community’ transcend that type of thing?”
  • We wanted to know what religions nuns are for. [Nun Note: So many ways to take this question but we'll do our best tackling it from all sides!]
  • What’s the deal with 666? Is it really a sign of the devil? Should we be concerned when it pops up? [For more on hell-related items, descend to the depths of our blog and read Free Trip to Hell]
  • Could you talk about what the Great Schism of the East and West is?
  • A romance-thriller-suspense novelist asks for help with the character development of a young woman who may be thinking about joining a religious community.

Do you have a question for us? Visit our new portress Sister Mary Evoca http://anunslife.org/contact/and leave a message for us. Is there a generation gap in orders of women religious? Do the older nuns ‘think’ different from the younger ones? or does ‘community’ transcend that type of thing?” Some of the older sisters I have known were so young-at-heart that there was no gender gap, while sometimes there seemed to be a gender gap in sisters of the same age and group! Bottom line, we are all different, and we have to find ways to blend our differences to create a community that promotes the mission of the whole group.

We wanted to know what religions nuns are for. If you are talking baseball, I’m for the Dodgers! When it comes to social justice, I am for empowering the poor and the marginalized.

What’s the deal with 666? Is it really a sign of the devil? Should we be concerned when it pops up? Remember that the Book of Revelation is written in code. That “mark of the beast” might be an obsession with a certain brand, like Coach purses, BMW cars, Rolex watches, etc. When it comes down to basics, for what do you spend your life? Do you look for the prestige that comes with power, or do you use your power to promote good?

A writer asks for help with the character development of a young woman who may be thinking about joining a religious community. When I told my closest friend that I wanted to be sister, she told me that it was about time I noticed the qualities I already possessed, like the way I was generous with my time and talents to help others, no matter how busy I was. I hope the writer paints this character as someone who is generous, who responds to others’ needs, who piety is expressed in the way she lives out her faith, whose heart is too large to give it away to only one person, finds herself more present to God as she serves God’s people.

I’ll leave the Great Schism to someone more knowledgeable.

Hey! I’ll be able to hear most of the broadcast tonight. Whoo-hoot!
