O Radiant Dawn
During Advent, members of the A Nun’s Life community will be posting reflections on the Jesse Tree and the O Antiphons.
Day 21 :: O Radiant Dawn written by Sister Joyce
Original art by Sister Joyce Durosko, IHM
O Oriens: “O Radiant Dawn, splendor of eternal light, sun of justice: come, shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death.”
I saiah had prophesied, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shown.” (9:1).

O Oriens, splendor lucis æternæ, et sol justitiæ: veni, et illumina sedentes in tenebris, et umbra mortis.
What dawn do you await in your life?

joyce, i love this approach. i am awaiting a new dawn concerning to my body, another concerning my finances, and the most important concerning my faith. that isn’t terribly specific, i know, and some dawns may never come. i see a new dawn coming spiritually, though, and, as i said, it is the most important. thanks, sister, for the post.
oh, and I WANT TO BUY ONE OF YOUR PRINTS! beautiful!!
Thanks, Marla. It is such a gift at this season to know there is a new dawn, full of mystery and surprises.
If you send me an email with the information and I will send you a complimentary print, Joyce
I loved your post, Sister Joyce! Your prayer repeated in Latin and chant, the beautiful painting evocative of Vincent’s “Starry Night” with the vibrant and vibrating sky full of promise and hope touched me profoundly. Through my eyes, my mind and my ears your prayer filled me until it seemed my entire being was awake and aware of the presence of the Holy one.
And then you asked, “What dawn do you await in your life?”
These moments.
Terrific post, Joyce! I love the radiance of the moon in your artwork, and how its light enlivens even the darkness, making light and dark as if one.
What Sr. Max and Julia said!
