New machine produces vocations to religious life?

SpeedwayEarly this morning, I saw this sign while driving through a small town near Toledo.

The idea of a Speedway mini-mart producing vocations to religious life from a machine made me laugh. So much for the often-messy process of discernment!

Even though the spelling isn’t the same, “Capuchin” (as in the friars) and “cappuccin” (as in the drink that ends with “o”) sounded enough alike in my head to make the connection. I imagined hundreds of friars emerging from Speedways across the country, going into the world to do good.

In the course of what’s been a challenging week, it was great to encounter this bit of fanciful humor. Stuff like this reminds me that the world can offer two seemingly opposite things at the same time–delight and difficulty. It reminds me that it’s important to keep an eye out for delight and allow it to transform me.

What signs have been transformative for you today?

That store should be careful! “Franciscans Sue Starbucks” (faux story)

Who knew the friars had grounds for a lawsuit?!

I don’t know anything about Italian law, but I’m guessing the statute of limitations has LONG since passed! (That blog post was from April 1!)

This made me laugh! Today I saw a sign that said “Come and see”–and I almost jumped out of my skin, so preoccupied was I with my trip to the IHM motherhouse later in May. It never ceases to amaze me what the human brain can do when left to roam free! In other news, I would like one of those nun-making machines.

I would come and see a nun-making machine if you find one

Gas prices so low you know it’s gotta be Divine Intervention…

Or perhaps it’s a drink machine that once you partake of the beverage you suddenly find you have a religious vocation? Hrrmmm…

Would make me wonder what kind of drinks it served!
