Scripture Birthday Blessings

This weekend we celebrated not only the feast of Saint Patrick but what seemed like the natal anniversaries of half our family and friends! We were birthday-greeting machines! Sister Maxine's sister was one of the birthday celebrands and when they were talking, she noted that on her birthday -- 3/16 -- she always remembers the inspiring verse from the Gospel of Saint John 3:16:

"For God so loved the world
as to give the Only Begotten One.
that whoever believes may not die,
but have eternal life." (John 3:16)

So we wondered, what scripture verse correlates to our birthdays?

Sister Maxine is 1/4 .... so we picked the Gospel of John as well to parallel her sister's:

"In the Word was life,
and that life was humanity's light." (John 1:4)

My birthday is 1/27 ... but I wasn't sure which book of the Bible to choose from ...

"From the waist up, the figure looked like electricty, like metal glowing in a furnace; and from the waist dwn, it looked like fire surrounded by a brilliiant light." (Ezekiel 1:27)

I totally love that passage, though I'm not sure that should be my birthday Scripture passage!

While we keep searching, we would LOVE to hear what your birthday passage is! Simply take the numbers from your month and day -- the month is the chapter number and the day is the verse -- and pick any book of the Bible that has that configuration! Use the comment box below and write your birthday passage. And happy day of your birth, no matter what day!

"And He said to them, "Why are you timid, you men of little faith"? Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea; and it became perfectly calm". (Matthew 8:26).

This has always been one of my favorite images of Jesus - and I often think of it when I am at the ocean in the summer. But until now I had not picked up on the connection with my birthday - so thanks for the great idea!

I've heard of this before. Using this website http://usccb.org/bible/books-of-the-bible/index.cfm made this task fun, like a scavenger hunt!

Below are my verses (well, most of mine. Some of them were in the middle of a dialogue, and, when taken out of context, a bit...odd.)

Deuteronomy 10: 21--He is your praise; he is your God, who has done for you those great and awesome things that your own eyes have seen.

Proverbs 10: 21--The lips of the just nourish many, but fools die for want of sense.

Sirach 10:21--The beginning of acceptance is the fear of the Lord; the beginning of rejection, effrontery and pride.

Mark 10: 21--Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, “You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to [the] poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.”

Luke 10: 21--At that very moment [Jesus] rejoiced [in] the Holy Spirit and said, “I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.

Hebrews 10: 21 (19-22)--Therefore, brothers, since through the blood of Jesus we have confidence of entrance into the sanctuary by the new and living way he opened for us through the veil, that is, his flesh, and since we have “a great priest over the house of God,” let us approach with a sincere heart and in absolute trust, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water.

Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, “I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me."
Romans 10:20
never heard of doing that...fun!

For I have put my hope in the Eternal One to save you, and joy as come to me from the Holy One, because of the mercy that will soon come to you from your Eternal Liberator. (Baruch 4:22 )

Joy - Mercy - Holy One = all goodness! Debin

Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – (NIV) I really like this one. :D

This was an interesting exercise. I am not sure which one is my favourite tho.

Genesis :“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” Exodus: I will make a distinction[b] between my people and your people. This sign will occur tomorrow.’” Leviticus: He then presented the other ram, the ram for the ordination, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on its head. Numbers: The Lord said to Moses, Joshua: But they took the king of Ai alive and brought him to Joshua. Judges: But Gideon told them, “I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. The Lord will rule over you.” 1 Kings. ....and said: “Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way. 2 kings: As for the other events of Jehoram’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 1 Chronicles: Abdon, Zikri, Hanan, Ezra: So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer. Tobit: They said together, “Amen, amen!” Judith: Our servitude will not work to our advantage, but the Lord our God will turn it to disgrace. 1 Maccabees : "May it be well with the Romans and the Jewish nation at sea and on land forever; may sword and enemy be far from them. Proverbs: I was formed long ages ago, at the very beginning, when the world came to be. Zechariah: This is what the Lord Almighty says: “In those days ten people from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, ‘Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.’” Matthew: But Jesus told him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.” Mark: He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?” Luke: As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. John: But he continued, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. Acts: For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.” Romans : Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.
