Desert Nuns Blog

by Sister Julie on September 17, 2007

Wow! I’m having to update my “Blogs by Catholic Nuns” faster than I thought. I just found this blog by the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration of Our Lady of Solitude Monastery in Phoenix, Arizona. It is called “Nun News and Building Blogs“. Here’s what they say about their new blog:

“We are in the process of building a new Monastery and Chapel in Tonopah, Arizona. This blog is intended to keep all of our faithful friends and supporters up to date on the ‘latest happenings’ regarding this building project. It’s also intended to keep you up to date on our day to day life and adventures!”

Dear Sister Patricia

by Sister Julie on September 6, 2007

I am delighted to meet you, especially through such “coincidental” events (see Sister Patricia’s comment on my post Sister Patricia’s Confession). I want to tell how cool I think it is that you are present to people and reflecting God’s love through the Internet. Your use of YouTube (see previous link), daily inspirational e-cards (see the link on Franciscan E-Cards), and blogging (Joy Notes, a blog version of her daily message) is awesome. I am so proud of what you are doing.

I followed the link to your community and was happy to get to know another community of sisters — the Poor Clare Sisters of the Franciscan Monastery of Saint Clare in Spokane, Washington.

Know that you have a fan way over here in Chicago. May God continue to bless you, your sisters, and your work.

Sister Julie

(P.S. I added your blog to my growing list of Blogs by Catholic Nuns.)

Blogging from an Enclosed Benedictine Novitiate

by Sister Julie on September 4, 2007

Thanks to a lovely comment on a recent post on this blog“, I have discovered the blog of the Benedictine Nuns of Saint Mary’s Abbey in Colwich, an enclosed order of Roman Catholic women following the Rule of St Benedict. Their blog is called Colwich Novitiate: A glimpse into the life of a Benedictine novitiate. Here’s what they wrote about their blog:

“We - the novitiate at Colwich Abbey in Staffordshire, UK - are eager to share something of our life with those who might be interested. So we asked, and our Novice Mistress gave us permission to set up a blog so that we can share with you a bit about the day-to-day life in our monastery.” (source)

I have added this blog to my “Blogs by Catholic Nuns” page.

There is also some very good information about Benedictine life and enclosure on the community’s web site. Click on Life at Colwich Today.

Best (or at least not-half-bad) Religion Blog?

by Sister Julie on August 28, 2007

I don’t think I’ve ever won anything I’ve been nominated for. Not that I’m complaining, it just seems to be a fact of nature. Well, there was that one time I was named May queen for a May Crowning (it’s a Catholic thing … for a cool book that includes talk of May Crownings, check out May Crowning, Mass and Merton by Liz Kelly) … though Mary was more the headliner and I was like the opening band. That’s all I’m going to say about that.

So a gentleman by the name of Chris Abraham nominated my blog ANunsLife.org for Blogger’s Choice Awards in the Best Religion Blog category. It’s an honor to have my blog nominated. I spent some time looking through the other nominees. I did a search using the word “catholic” on the Blogger’s Choice Awards Web site and came up with a whole host of new-to-me blogs. These blogs are vast in terms of their content and perspectives. Many, many are apologetic oriented. Take a look at the range of blogs by Catholics. Let me know if you hit on one that is really interesting and/or quirk-ily Catholic.

My site was nominated for Best Religion Blog!Oh, and if you want to check out the nomination for my blog, click this icon.
There’s also a bunch of other categories with interesting blog nominations.

That Catholic Show

by Sister Julie on May 24, 2007

Just came across this and think it is fabulous … a respectful yet relevant way to approach all things Catholic. Kudos to SQPN (Star Quest Production Network) for a great piece. You can watch the video podcast below or check out my “nunpod” of videos in my sidebar where I’ve added all three episodes of That Catholic Show.

Holy and Cool Links for your Blog

by Sister Julie on May 16, 2007

One of my favorite things to play with is new blog widgets and icons. Not too long ago I added an icon to my side bar called “3 Minute Retreat” … which has a prayer for every day of the year. The 3 Minute Retreat was designed by Loyola Press, the nonprofit publishing company where I have the privilege to work.

Finding God 3 Minute Retreat

There are some other cool links that Loyola Press has available. Here’s the link so that you can take a look.

Have you seen any other “holy and cool” links that you’d recommend?”
