Sisterhood: What does it mean to be sisters?

Blog Published: March 27, 2009

Sisterhood among Catholic sisters and nuns is a powerful, Spirit-filled experience. I’ve been thinking a lot about sisterhood after having been home at the IHM Motherhouse for a couple of days. I was with a group of sisters doing some planning for our community’s retreat/celebration days this summer.

Do Nuns Know How to Love?

Blog Published: June 15, 2007

I spent my blogging time this morning reflecting on and responding to a question from “An Ex-Candidate of an Order.” I thought I would share it with you because I want you to keep Ex-Candidate in your prayers and because I’d like to hear your reflections on this as well.

Blog Published: February 7, 2012

At the end of January, Sister Maxine and I had the awesome privilege of attending our congregation‘s General Chapter. Our primary decisions were to embrace a specific direction for our congregation over the next 6 years and to elect a new leadership team.

Living in Community

Blog Published: June 25, 2009

Catholic sisters and nuns live in community in a wide variety of ways. Often we only think of community as living under the same roof, that is in “the convent” or “the monastery” but community actually takes many forms. Simply living under the same roof does not make a community. Likewise, living singly does not mean you are living alone or without community.

The New-To-Me Nun Car

Blog Published: August 24, 2009

One of the first things I noticed when I started hanging out with nuns (aside from their beautiful spirit!) is that there is such a thing as a Nun Car. It seemed that most of the cars in our fleet (kind of like the Spanish Armada of Nun Transport) were either Geo Prisms or Neons. As time went on I saw some Ford Focuses and Chevy Cavaliers in the mix and now we have some Toyota Prius hybrid cars which reflects our growing awareness of the environment and our care for all of God’s creation.
