AS199 Ask Sister - saintly martyrs and virgins, praying in default mode, biblical fatty portions for God

Podcast Recorded: August 16, 2017

Join us for a livestreaming Ask Sister podcast, where we take your questions about God, faith, religious life and everything in between! Hosted by Sister Maxine, with guest Sister Shannon Schrein, theologian and member of the Sylvania Franciscans. Read more about Sister Shannon below (BTW she is awesome)!

During the live broadcast, you can interact with us and the online community in the chat room. We'll take your questions and comments and bring them into the conversation!  We'll also respond to these questions that listeners have sent in advance:

  • Why are women saints often called "martyrs and virgins," but men saints only "martyrs"?
  • In the bible, why did Abel give God the "fatty portion" of a sheep? That doesn't sound very appetizing.
  • My prayers are time-consuming but don't feel authentic anymore. I'm in default prayer mode--please help!

Why does God have so many names?

Blog Published: July 7, 2014

I used to think that God only had one name. God. Sure, there's the whole Holy Spirit and Jesus the Christ thing, but they are included in the Trinity package. God is God, right? Well, over the course of my life, I've discovered -- to my great delight -- that God has many names!
