Here are some of the questions we addressed in this Ask Sister podcast:
- What is your vocation story? How did you become an IHM Sister?
- For what reasons do you think a discerner should consider religious life with hope? How is religious life a life-giving option?
- How do I make sense of Catholic websites that “defend the faith” but don’t sound all that Christian?
- What is the best way to obtain humility?

Sister Julie, Sister Maxine and all dear friends in A Nuns Life Community,
Many thanks to person who submitted question #4. As part of my Spiritual Direction journey, I am searching for opportunities to become more humble. Once I asked the Holy Spirit to open my heart to these possibilities, I have uncovered “plenty” of opportunity for my growth in humility.
I love praying the “Litany of Humility” and “Acts of Humility” everyday. Both help me a great deal, even if it’s just to increase my awareness. And, I look forward to more guidance from Sister Julie, Sister Maxine, IHM Sisters who will join us from the IHM Motherhouse in Monroe and anyone else who wishes to provide input.
Love, peace and joy to all.
Kathleen
Hi, Kathleen! that’s awesome what you’re doing. I remember when I lived in Atlanta and a grade-school-aged relative joined me one summer; we’d commute to the opposite side and so she’d overhear my morning prayer, which included asking for humility. She was more and more uncomfortable as the days progressed, and finally asked, “Why do you keep asking God to humiliate you?” I laughed so hard.
Years later I learned that the virtues are not something we have to *struggle* to achieve. When we ask in all sincerity for God to transform us into Christlikeness (love, joy, peace, faith, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, temperance), He lays it on us. A day arrives when we realize that we’re no longer responding to people/things out of our old human selfishness, but we’re responding like Christ would. And we marvel, and we know we can’t take the credit for it, and we give Him the glory.
Keep it up!
Safe journeys!
Sisters,
What was that other university (aside from University of Notre Dame) that offers online classes on the Catholic faith, which was also mentioned in this podcast? Would appreciate a link to its website. Thank you!
Hi Jeric … here you go!
Satellite Theological Education Program (STEP) at Notre Dame: http://step.nd.edu/
Virtual Learning Community for Faith (VLCFF) at University of Dayton: http://vlc.udayton.edu/
I’ve researched and taken courses from both and highly recommend. I’ll also be researching and putting together a page of other Catholic websites to post on aNunsLife.org.
Thank you very much, Sister Julie!
Hi Sister Julie,
I asked you on another page if a nun’s vows were man made. I can’t remember how I got to that page, can you please tell me how to get back? I also wanted to see where that issue was discussed, you said something about that happenening on a Friday. Finally, I have to ask you this….have you ever been in love?/Been in love while being a Nun?
