Hi Sister Julie
I have followed you blog for a while now, finding it very informative and easy to understand. I’m writing a story and I really hope you can help me with some answers.
-If a sister or a nun doesn’t want to renew her vows, living in a convent, does she have to write a resignation letter? To whom? How long she has to wait before leaving?
-I would love to visit a convent, get to see the insides, the amazing decorations all around its walls, is this allowed? Who should I contact and how?
-Are family members of the sisters allowed to visit the convent at any time?
Thanks,
Marilyn.
Hi Marcos, Thanks for the questions. If we can’t get to these during today’s podcast, we’ll be sure to take them up next week.
My first visit was to the kitchen/laundry area of our local convent when I was four yrs old. The 8th grade teacher threatened to put me into the washing machine. She was kidding, I know now, but I finally got my revenge.
I didn’t enter that order.
Okay, so I maybe shouldn’t have posted that without saying that I love that order of sisters and am so very grateful for both teaching me so well and for nurturing the seeds of my vocation. God calls us to where we belong –no revenge involved whatsoever!
Did I dig myself out of that hole yet? Sister Julie, feel free to delete all three of my posts. I’ll go and sit in the corner…
Hi Another Sister Julie,
I don’t feel you dug yourself into a corner. You demonstrated your humorous nature and it made me laugh. Your writing is very tongue-in-cheek and it is evident that you were kidding and not seeking revenge. I find this story quite charming.
Gotta love that … nunly traits !?! BTW, how can I listen to these podcasts both while they are on and then later to the recordings? rose
Sister, do you use nun/sister in the same way? I understood a sister is all women in a Catholic order where nun was in a cloistered order. Has the terminology changed where the words are used one for the other?
Another Sister Julie,
Alwasy look forward to your contribution. You are honest and have a wonderful sense of humor … a wonderful combination.
Take good care,
Kathleen
Thank you for a wonderful podcast. It was really fun and look forward to joining you again!

Here is a wonderful piece about the habits of the Sisters of Mercy that I think you will find interesting:

hello, sister julie!
please..thank you!
when will you post the podcast? i want to hear it.
Ok, somewhat redundant to my previous, yet unanswered question, but can you hear a podcast on the computer? rose
yes, i can hear it. Even the replays. I’m wondering why sister Julie haven’t posted it yet.
Hi Joanna, Thanks for the reminders! Was out of town on Friday-Saturday, and on Sunday I pretty much stayed in bed as I was out for the count. Am feeling better today so back to work! Will have podcast up soon.
Rosebud, thank you for your comment and my apologies for not getting back earlier.
