Ask Sister podcast is a live podcast where you have the opportunity to engage with us and ask questions about nuns, prayer, religious life, or pretty much anything in between!
Here are some of the topics we addressed in this Ask Sister podcast:

  • How to deal with people who mock your life and the choices you’ve made
  • Is it a myth or legend or truth that Saint Patrick discovered Purgatory?
  • Why Jesus was baptized
  • An apparition of Mary that’s causing waves in one California town
  • Up for discussion: “The more someone is present on the internet, the less they are present in real life.”

Great topic. I am struggling with naysayers in my choose to convert. I homeschool in a secular group which normally is able to discuss religion quite reasonably. But a few of the atheist moms found out I was converting and it’s been pretty bad. They openly mock Catholicism. They say things like “You’re too smart to believe in God.” It’s been very hard to have a conversation about this with them.

A good comeback might be to smile and say, “Maybe I’m too smart NOT to believe. But let’s just agree to disagree on that point.” Then move on. You can move them more by your actions than by your words, and if your actions show how you implement your beliefs in your everyday life, you can let them speak for you.

A friend once said, “Never argue with a fool. Other people can’t tell the difference if you do.” The other moms may be very smart people, but they have a “foolish” blind spot on this one, and arguing, even explaining, will get you nowhere.
