hi sisters! miss all of u! been listening in after work, n particularly interested in qn3 for today’s podcast ;) as u know I’m kinda in that spot.. contemplating switching out an S for the D(r) prefix. have gone thru med school n had a relighting of a religious vocation in my final yr (this was something always at the back of my mind since I was 10!) never really left me, but doing what seemed like the practical n what’s expected, I didnt really give myself the chance I suppose to fully explore religious life. my mum can tell u… all my teachers in high school still ask her if I ever became a nun – she used to teach in the same school. alittle harder now as I have a bigger mountain of student debt -> 3 college n postgrad degrees later… n the fact that family finances are going to be hard esp next yr when mum retires.
alot of ppl have told me that being a doctor im already doing God’s work that ‘taking it further is not necessary’, but this deep yearning within me doesn’t feel the same. so will be interested to see other responses to this. yes it’s possible to do both as we’ve heard from a previous podcast, n the wonderful examples of sisters who are medical doctors even if not within tradtionally health care orientated communities who r actively practicing medicine.
so I’m coming up on the end of my first yr of compulsory supervised training, and the year that i have given myself to try out medicine and grow within my Faith n self awareness (latter has unfortunately taken a back seat while i try to catch up with sleep, still somewhere in March I ithink..) I know I will need to go alittle deeper within, and as St Benedict says to “listen with the ear of [my] heart” where God is calling me. Made more challenging now as I really enjoy my current vocation (but still yearn for something deeper)
Just me not being content? or is there more i am called to be? Look forward to that discussion! :)
