Ask Sister podcast is a live podcast where you have the opportunity to engage with us and ask questions about nuns, prayer, religious life, or pretty much anything in between!
Here are some of the topics we addressed in this Ask Sister podcast:
- The work of discernment: call and dread. Really?
- Novelist asks about nuns in childcare ministries, and Sister Camille Brouillard responds by describing what it was like to minister to children with AIDS.
- I found a description of sisters and nuns on a diocesan website that describes their lives in terms of cooking and housekeeping and wanting to be loved and, oh yeah, some prayer too. What’s up with that?

Just wanted to say Thank you to you both for answering my questions. You have given me much to ponder on with my characters. The creative juices are now flowing! Thanks to all who took the time to answer.
I have another I would like you to comment on. What does it mean when you take the vow of obedience? My character (good nun) is very vocal within the city’s community, she is an activist who pulls together a protest of women outside a police station, who were rape victims, the police did not take serious crime. She has a problem with obedience. I have her getting into trouble within her comminuty because of her very vocal and public display.
And could you explain the three vows you take? What does each mean?
Thanks again,
God Bless,
Kim G.
