Is there a dynamic in community prayer that you cannot get from praying on one’s own?
In private prayer I relate with God in a vertical relationship, “I and Thou.”
Now, community prayer is (usually) liturgical prayer, which is the best example of a cross relationship. In liturgical prayer I relate both horizontally with the members of the assembly AND together we all relate vertically in our common prayer. When the psalms of the Office are prayed, either in unison, by sides or antiphonally (think responsorial psalm), there is an ongoing dialog that you can’t have when you pray privately (unless you talk to yourself, which is another thing altogether! )
I can’t wait to hear the recording!
