I love posting stories about Catholic sisters and I am delighted to share with you today about one of my nuns, Sister Beth Wood, IHM.

Sister Beth is sweetness incarnate and a woman strength, gentleness, and overall awesomeness. :) It is a joy to be in community with her as my sister.

Sister Beth Wood, IHMSister Beth was recently interviewed by Anthony Fenech, a sports writer from the Detroit Free Press for the article Nun on the run: Sister Beth Wood, 84, to run Detroit Free Press/Talmer Bank half marathon (June 2, 2013). Here are a couple quotes from the interview that I love!

Running shoes: “New Balance, but they’re not new. They’re really old, but they’re comfortable for me, so I wear them.”

When did you start running? “I was in my 50s, and then I would just run from here to there and then the next day, I’d say, ‘I’ll see if I can go from here to there to there’ and I was living in Monroe, and our mother house is there, and I lived across the street from the campus. So my goal was to run around the campus by the end of the week and I did do that, and you just go on.”

Although Sister Beth is more than twice my age, I know for certain this woman can run circles around me! Maybe she was the nun that I was drafting behind on campus so that I could catch a breath -- only thing was, I was on a bike!

Proud of you, Sister Beth!
