A happy and blessed Monday of Holy Week to you! And, happy NUNDAY! Today’s photo of a Catholic sister comes from Discerninglife25. Here’s what she wrote:

Sister Laura DowningThis is Sister Laura Downing, a Sister, Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Immaculata, Pennsylvania. This is a picture of her taken at my Catholic High School in the Diocese of Raleigh, NC. Sister Laura teaches theology to freshman and sophomores, and she always has a vibrant joy, enthusiasm for teaching, and an attractive personality (not to mention a great sense of humor!).

My relation to Sister Laura is that though she is not my teacher, she is still my friend. She is always there to talk, even when she has flocks of kids sitting in her room (she is a very popular nun!). She even took me to her motherhouse, which was a very fun trip indeed. Overall, I say that Sister Laura is very down to Earth and knows how to have fun. She has certainly defined today’s nun very well indeed!

Thanks, Discerninglife25! What a wonderful portrait of Sister Laura.

Sister Laura represents the best among the young nuns in the church today. Let’s hope her example leads many more young women to consider a religious vocation.

Yay! A nun ministering in my diocese! I remember reading about Sister Laura in the diocesan magazine when she and four or five fellow IHM sisters moved here last summer. How wonderful that she is already making such an impact at Gibbons!

Haha, Sister Laura is so awesome. I was stalking her toda-, I mean I was talking to her today (heehee), and she was so excited that she got to be on nunday on the holiest week of the year. She is a pretty cool nun, and its awesome spending time with her.

Oh wow! I went to Cardinal Gibbons for the first 2 years of high school, (’96-’98) until I was uprooted to the West Coast. I really missed it; public school just didn’t stand up to Gibbons. So neat to hear my school mentioned out of the blue! Now I’m going all nostalgic and will have to rifle through the yearbooks again. I heard one of my classmates became a nun but I’ve never been able to get confirmation. The calling definitely suited her.

There is a girl named Stephanie who joined the Sisters of Life if that is whom you are talking about. I have seen her once, but it was a short time. She was really happy being a nun. Oh my goodness, I am so happy to see my diocese of Raleigh family! We should so get together on facebook!
