Recently I added Sister Laurel O’Neal’s blog Notes from Stillsong Hermitage to our list of Blogs by Catholic Nuns. Sister Laurel graciously responded to some questions I had for her about what it is like to be a hermit. I’ll post these in three segments starting with this one.

Tonight (Friday) ABC’s 20/20 is airing a special 2-hour segment called “Seeing and Believing: The Power of Faith” at 9 p.m. EDT (check local listings). Part of the segment includes a section on “Silent Nuns” in which Diane Sawyer visits with cloistered nuns in a New Mexico convent.

Blog reader Jenn had a question about prayer, and so I thought tackle it on today’s post. Prayer is such a wonderfully dynamic thing. There are so many ways to have a conversation with God, to be still in his presence. One of the central ways that we Catholics pray together is through the celebration of the Eucharist. This celebration itself holds within it a great variety of ways to pray which involve spirit, mind, and body. It is at the center of our lives as Catholics.

The New York Times recently published an article on a cloistered group of Dominican nuns who live just a couple blocks from all the action in Hollywood.
