World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid, Spain, is just around the corner and we’re a little fixated on our preparations both spiritually and logistically! From which Teresa of Avila book to bring to finding WIFI from which to do live broadcasts, we are on a mission.
And that mission includes YOU! That’s right, you. First, a bit about our crazy awesome mission: We’re going to connect with young people and religious (i.e., sisters, monks, nuns, friars, abbesses, ordained religious, priors, etc.) from all over the world, listen to their stories, and bring them back here to A Nun’s Life as well as to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and whoever will listen ( … Hi Mom! … ).
**Image: "We get these backpacks if we go? I'm TOTALLY there!"
We’ll be interviewing people on the street, at various WYD venues, and wherever we meet them, and we’ll be asking them about their experiences at WYD and also about calling and what it means to them live into their calling.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to help us prepare by telling us what you want to know from the folks we encounter and about the places we go. Give us a sense of questions and topics you’d like us to bring up.
Now don’t be shy. You may always read but never write in, or you may be terrified of the certain fame that will accompany posting on a nunly website, but rest assured, your identity is safe with us and your soul is safe with God.
Bring it on!

Join the A Nun’s Life Community for prayer today at 6 p.m. CST (your time zone). This will be an adventure prayer experience, at least for us, because we will be testing for the first time our Spain Studio, that is, a backpack’s worth of broadcast equipment!

“If you could change one thing about the Catholic Church doctrine – what would you change?”

Still working on the question, but if you could snag a bag or two, you could raffle them off as a fund raiser for NL. OOH! And if you could get someone to autograph it, some big Catholic celeb, you could start the bidding at an ever higher price!

WOW! I am getting so excited for you, Sisters Julie and Max, and your two other travelers in your group.
My Question: I would like to to know if there are other religious congregations in Spain or other countries who are ‘blogging’ in the area of vocation ministry to consecrated religious life, as well as educating the global community about the mysteries surrounding the quest for God for all people who are baptized..
And to get you in the ‘swing of things’ …

Hi SJ & SMax I am so very excited for the both of you. I know you will both have an amazing time and will meet lots of wonderful people. My question is: Why did you decide to attend WYD and what would you tell non-Catholic Christians about WYD? Have a safe and blessed trip. In the love of Christ and in my prayers, Ape

It would be awesome to hear vocation stories from people all over the world! I have an idea that there will be many similar trends in all of them but it is always a joy to hear other’s stories.

One place I saw online that I think both Sister Julie and Sister Max would love to see is the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid (the National Art Museum)

What JE asked – and more specifically – what do you – Srs Maxine and Julie think of the Garden of Earthly Delights by Bosch? It blew me away when I was standing in front of it during a college trip. (will keep thinking of more questions)

1. Who/what is God to you?
2. Do you think of Jesus as “he” (someone you know about or have heard about) or as “you” (someone you are in relationship with)?
3. How is your faith different now than it was when you were a young child?
4. Is God real? Have you ever seen any proofs of God’s existence?
5. Was there ever a time when you felt the presence of God? Will you share that story?
6. What is a saint? Do you know any? or know about any?
7. Who do you most admire? or trust? Who would you like to be like?
6. Are people basically good or basically evil? What makes you think so?
7. How can you know what is true and real?
8. If you were to meet the Pope, what would you like to ask him (or tell him)? - August 10, 2011 at 2:41 pm

If you could meet the Pope, what is one question you would ask him?

Um, I would probably say: Your Holiness, I’ve been to visit you at least 20 times , but when are you coming to visit me? I make great cupcakes you know
Just kidding… I’ve always wondered what would say if ever I got a chanc to speak with him for just a moment, but having spoken with some people who have had that rare privilage, they tell me that whatever one has planned, it completely is blanked out at that moment because of that special awe that accompanies that once in a lifetime moment….ah but wouldn’t it be awesome!
On another note, here is a request that I would love to make of him but I (like probably every other sane person) would never have the courage to ask: Can I see the Vatican library?
