Because of our difference in age (Sister Marie entered around Vatican II, and I entered around Y2K) we brought varying perspectives to what it was like to decide to become a nun, wear a habit, minister, live in community, and many other things.

Sister Sharon Holland, IHM — you rock!

I am so proud of my nun!  In addition to her ultra-coolness on the Vatican/Canon Law/Religious Life scene, she is also one of the most holy, gentle women that I know. I have great respect and affection for Sharon.

Silent Nuns on ABC’s 20/20

Tonight (Friday) ABC’s 20/20 is airing a special 2-hour segment called “Seeing and Believing: The Power of Faith” at 9 p.m. EDT (check local listings). Part of the segment includes a section on “Silent Nuns” in which Diane Sawyer visits with cloistered nuns in a New Mexico convent.

The article “Today’s Nun Has A Veil—And A Blog” looks at the phenomenon of young women entering convents today and how they are changing “the sisterhood.” I like the diversity of religious life that this article illustrates. There are so many ways to live religious life.
