This weekend we celebrated not only the feast of Saint Patrick but what seemed like the natal anniversaries of half our family and friends! We were birthday-greeting machines! Sister Maxine's sister was one of the birthday celebrands and when they were talking, she noted that on her birthday -- 3/16 -- she always remembers the inspiring verse from the Gospel of Saint John 3:16:
"For God so loved the world
as to give the Only Begotten One.
that whoever believes may not die,
but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
So we wondered, what scripture verse correlates to our birthdays?
Sister Maxine is 1/4 .... so we picked the Gospel of John as well to parallel her sister's:
"In the Word was life,
and that life was humanity's light." (John 1:4)
My birthday is 1/27 ... but I wasn't sure which book of the Bible to choose from ...
"From the waist up, the figure looked like electricty, like metal glowing in a furnace; and from the waist dwn, it looked like fire surrounded by a brilliiant light." (Ezekiel 1:27)
I totally love that passage, though I'm not sure that should be my birthday Scripture passage!

This has always been one of my favorite images of Jesus - and I often think of it when I am at the ocean in the summer. But until now I had not picked up on the connection with my birthday - so thanks for the great idea!
