Lent 2023, Week 3: Service

Lent 2023 service

This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;
listen to him.” (Matthew 17:5)

There's a saying that God doesn't give us more than we can handle -- and there's a joke that follows: "I just wish God didn't think I could handle so much!"

There are seasons in our lives when the challenges we face seem almost too great to bear. During those times, it can be so hard to keep in mind that God is with us, even in that darkness -- and that darkness doesn't last forever; the sun will rise again.

Lent is the perfect time to focus on both those facts. In this season, we prayerfully recall the incredible challenge Jesus faced, the darkness he experienced, and the abandonment he felt. And yet he met that challenge, and God did not abandon him. The Son rose again -- an eternal reminder that even when we feel most isolated, we are never alone; and that if we obey God's commands, not only can we get through our challenges and emerge on the other side ... miracles can happen.

This week, we also begin the celebration of Catholic Sisters Week—Celebrating Traditions, Changing the World.

Catholic Sisters Week shines a light on women religious. Their lives and ministry witness to God's love -- and we are all the better for their prayer, courage, strength, and service to those in need. Is there a Sister who inspired/inspires you? Join us in celebrating her!
