1st Week ~ FASTING

1st Week of Lent ~ FASTING

"This is the time of fulfillment. The reign of God is at hand."  (Mk 1:15)

To “fast from” is to empty ourselves of what weighs us down, prevents us from a healthy reverence of self, distracts us from extending kindness to others, and making room in our hearts for God.

The purpose and act of fasting is our focus for this first week. We engage in fasting during Lent as a sign of sacrifice, self-discipline, and a way of reverencing the sacrifice of Jesus’s journey into the desert for 40 days.

Fasting is not necessarily about “giving up” food or sweets, but it can be an opportunity for “letting go” of that which prevents us from change, growth, and ongoing transformation.
