Today we celebrate an Olympian who is now a Franciscan nun. Kirstin Holum was just 17 years old when she competed in speedskating at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. She took 6th place in the 3000 meter which was considered a great achievement and a sign for future greatness.
A vocation is a gift of God, a gift for one’s journey of life and a gift for others. As a young teenage girl, I was attracted to my particular community by how the Sisters gave witness. They were joyful, prayerful, relational women, clearly at ease with people.
God desires that we each find that path that will allow us to grow to be the persons we were created to be in God’s mind and heart. For me, religious life is that choice and that journey.
